Kirkstall Classic Car Show, nr. Leeds Saturday 14th August 2010
Almost 100 classis and vintage car enthusiasts came along in 2009 and enjoyed a good day out amongst fellow owners in the grounds of Kirkstall Abbey, on the A65 just a couple of miles from Leeds city centre. We raised £960 for the St. Gemma Hospice in Leeds. You will enjoy your time in these historic grounds, where you will find the large abbey, an interesting museum, visitors centre and coffee shop, etc. We hope to have catering on-site this year to save crossing the busy main road for refreshments. Although there is no entry fee, please send whatever you feel you can afford with your details (name and address) and the details of your car (make, model, year, registration) and a s.a.e. to Steve Waldenberg, 39 Winding Way, Leeds, LS17 7RG. Please make cheques payable to “Kirkstall Classic Rally”. Steve will send you an entry card to gain entry to the grounds.

Yorkshire Tour . June 2008.

20 club cars and about 40 members completed a short tour of Yorkshire in June. Joining a range of Model Y saloons was the recently restored Alpine (see above article), a Kerry, a German built Eifel Sports Tourer an a solitary CX Tourer. In addition 2 Model A's - a van and a Roadster joined the smaller Fords on Tour. Several local members met up with the tour with the furthest traveller being Brian Shields from Brisbane obviously enjoying our English summer.

The cars performed very well in the lovely countryside of The Dales and Moors of Yorkshire - Ripon, Grassington , Skipton, Pickering and York featured in the places visited from the excellent hotel near Wetherby.
Driving on these quiet roads was nostalgic for those who remembered motoring in these sorts of cars 40 years ago. Hills presented few problems but it was noticeable that the 10hp. engined cars faired better as one would expect. The long hill from Grassington to Skipton over Embsay Moor presented probably the longest and most challenging climb particularly in the hot weather.
Problems were few - minor electrics and fuel vaporisation being the main concerns and the majority of cars had no problems at all. Testimony indeed to the sturdy design of the Model Y and C.
Apart from the enjoyment of all participants great pleasure was seen on the faces of the public wherever the cars travelled and rested.
The main aim of the club is to enjoy using our cars. This tour gave just the right opportunity.
